Kathryn Bauermeister, Director of Wishing Dream Foundation, along with her three daughters, Emily, Lulu and Zoey, visited TCH, bringing with them numerous supplies for the children. Wishing Dream is a charitable foundation that helps children in need by 1) raising funds through educational projects, and 2) operating programs that teach children about serving others, both in the United States and abroad. One of their main focuses has been to help children who need medical care and to provide supplies to orphanages. Wishing Dream, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and operating under the umbrella of the National Heritage Foundation, is working on several new initiatives for schools and service groups to raise funds for children.

No Surgery Required!!

Qing was born in November 2007—a preemie with club feet. She was abandoned in Guangdong Province and was welcomed to TCH in December 2007. Qing’s club feet were so severe that her feet could be bent backward until her toes touched the front of her legs. What a remendous benefit for Qing to receive casting at a young age. She only needed two castings; this will enable her to walk one day. Surgery to cut her Achilles tendons and wearing a brace were not required for Qing. Dr. Tang at Shenzhen Children’s Hospital performed Qing’s castings.

Foster children and foster parents met at Humen Park (above) for the quarterly get together. This is a special time for foster care families to be recognized and for the children to see their friends from TCH. We take lots of pictures to include in each child’s photo album.

Foster Mother Wu Yong Xia meets Adoptive Mother Renee

One can only imagine the conflicting emotions
felt by a foster parent who has loved and nurtured a child, with hopes that the child will
someday find their own forever family. Gang
Gang (Robby), the first child to have surgery
through TCH, was in foster care for 17 months.
His foster mother, Wu Yong Xia, shares with us
her feelings upon meeting Gang Gang’s forever
mother.

“When I was first asked if I wanted to meet Gang Gang’s adoptive mother, I did not want to because I knew that I would cry and did not want to be embarrassed. My daughter encouraged me to meet the adoptive mother; I knew that not many foster mothers get this opportunity. As a foster mother, we always wonder if the child will be safe and happy with the adoptive family, and I really wanted to make sure so I decided to meet Gang Gang’s adoptive mother.”

“I was very, very happy to see the adoptive mother, grandmother, brother and sister (who was also adopted
from China). I felt that Gang Gang was going to a loving and safe home and would be happy with his new family.”

“I am so glad that I took the opportunity to meet this family. It made me feel much better. I love the necklace
the adoptive mother gave me with Gang Gang’s picture; I wear it and look at Gang Gang’s picture every day.” (through a translator)

and her staff to say think you for funding Yi’s successful surgery!

  True Hero

There are many people working together to make a difference in the lives of children that come to TCH.
Each month we will spotlight one of those individuals as our
True Hero.

Dongguan Volunteer Association, Humen Branch
Ni and Ms. Zhao

Our April True Heroes are Ms. Zhao and The Dongguan Volunteer Association, Humen Branch, which was
established in 1996. “There are so many needs in the world so we mainly concentrate on environmental protection, care for the elderly, and helping children return to school,” says Ms. Zhao.

Several members joined us for our Friends in the Park celebration and also donated disposable diapers. It was obvious that the volunteer group has spent time with children by the friendly and interactive way they played with the children. It was nice to have new “friends” in the park.

Thank you Ms. Zhao and the Dongguan Volunteers of the Humen Branch; you are True Heroes!

Laura Beth and her family, along with their newly adopted daughter Eliana (Guo), came to TCH for a visit. They brought along donated shoes from Robeez—Heart & Sole Charity Program. For just the price of shipping to Laura Beth’s home, Robeez donated 25 pairs of these cute children’s shoes to TCH.

  Adoption Update—Kayla (Jing)

Hello Jenny,

I know it has been too long. Lee and I wanted
to thank you again for having us meet you
and your staff at True Children’s Home.
Thank you for taking such great care of our
daughter while she was with you.

Kayla is doing great! She has blended into the
family quite nicely. She has quite a sense of
humor and can even be a little “devilish” at
times. She is really thriving and we are so
blessed to have her in our lives.

- Susan and Lee,
Ben and Kayla too!
