Dickson County High School Interact Club Hopes Bracelet Sale Will Help Chinese Orphans |
| |
| |
When Kelsey Allen spent 10 months on a missionary trip to China with her parents last year, the Dickson
County High School senior came back to Dickson, Tennessee with her own mission. Kelsey wants to do all she
can to help raise money for special needs orphans at True Children’s Home to receive medical care they desperately
need. So she took her idea to the school’s Interact Club sponsor, Rhonda Owens, and now the idea
has reached from the club to the community. |
| |
| |
Phil Corbin, a Dickson High Noon Rotarian and employee at Tennsco, took Kelsey’s goal to Stuart Speyer,
president of Tennsco, who had a great plan. The company will match dollar for dollar all the money the students
earn from selling bracelets. |
| |
| |
The Interact Club decided to purchase the bracelets in orange and
blue with the phrase, “DCHS Makes a Difference” imprinted
on them. The High Noon Rotary club presented a $300 check on
Wednesday as start up money to buy the bracelets. |
| |
| The plan is for the bracelets to go on sale right before Christmas
break and continue through next spring. The bracelets can be
purchased at the high school or from any Interact Club member.
All proceeds from the sale of the bracelets will be sent to China to
help orphans at True Children’s Home receive the medical care
they need. |
| |
| “When we heard about this, we thought it was a good way to encourage
the students with their mission,” Corbin said, adding that Tennsco’s president also “felt it was a worthy cause to get behind.” |

There are many people working together to make a difference in the lives of children that come to TCH.
Each month we will spotlight one of those individuals as our True Hero. |

When we began searching for a skilled oral and maxillofacial surgeon to perform cleft lip/palate surgery on
orphans that come to TCH, Dr. Li at Tung Wah Hospital in Dongguan was highly recommended to us. Dr. Li
has been practicing medicine at Tung Wah Hospital since 2003 where he has performed more than 400 surgeries.
Dr. Li is from Shandong Province and has studied medicine in China and the U.S. We have found Dr.
Li to be a very skilled surgeon and also passionate and caring as he has performed more than 40 surgeries on
children at TCH. |

| |
Thank you Dr. Li and your medical team at Tung Wah Hospital for helping to make a difference in the lives of
children that have come to TCH. You are a True Hero! |

CHINA: A JOURNEY THAT WILL CHANGE
YOUR HEART FOREVER…

Working together with True Children’s Home: When we receive a list of children who have special needs
(Waiting Child List), one of the first things that we do is to try to find if these children have been in the care of or had assistance
with their medical needs by a care group from outside who are working within China. We know that the level of
care that children have received will make a HUGE difference in their early life through their dedication and commitment. |
| |
| |
True Children’s Home is one of those groups. The care and love that they give the children is excellent! With the
assistance that we receive from Jenny and Katrina in getting information, updates, pictures, etc., of these children, we know that not only |
| |
| the child, but the whole adoptive family will have a MUCH better adjustment
and attachment. |
Xiang
| |
| Our last list had 5 children who had been in their care. Four of these children found their
families very quickly! Prospective parents also see and know the difference this makes in
these children. |

YOUR family? He has recently had additional hearing tests and is waiting for a family to
help him! Please contact me at the e-mail address below if you feel that you might be his

| My Adoption Story or “Is Nine Enough?” When I played “house” as a child, I
would pretend that my children were adopted. I didn’t even know what adoption was!
Before my husband and I were married, we talked about adopting. We didn’t know then
that we were being prepared for how our family was to be formed. |
| |
| |
After being married for five years, we found that we had infertility issues. We were then
blessed to adopt two daughters at birth, and three children who were older, all through domestic adoption. |
| |
| |
On November 15, 1998, as I started to watch a film on the Persecuted Church, God spoke to my heart. In that still small
voice, He let me know that we were to go to China, bring home a baby girl and raise her for Him! Our first five children
were grown, or in their late teens. Dick was 49 and I was 47. We were looking forward to becoming “empty nesters.”
But, God had a different plan! |
| |
| |
We knew nothing about adoption from China. As I started to find out more and more about the situation with the children
in China, we developed an immense passion to help them. This passion only intensified with our trip to China. We
saw the children in the orphanages. They needed homes and families here needed to experience the love that having
these children in your home can bring. I was sure that just as we had been called, others would be too! Our journey to
China had changed our hearts forever! |
| |
| |
In 1999, I started helping other families bring home their children from China. The children have done wonderfully and
are loved so much! Our daughters each did so well that we now have four daughters from China! Our youngest, “Hope,”
was one of Small World’s Waiting Children from our program for children with special needs. Her need was orthopedic
and she now has a prosthetic leg. |
| |
| |
Dick and I, (who couldn’t “have” children) have been blessed with nine beautiful children!! With the change in the guidelines
from China this year, there will not be 10. BUT, we are so thankful for our daughters from China and to the Chinese
for allowing us to be their mom and dad! |

We at Small World would LOVE to help you with the adoption process. You can contact us at (509) 892-

| |
| |
There are many adoption agencies helping families to bring home a child from China. You can locate other
agencies on the web. You might want to ask others who have adopted for references. |
| |
| |
Every child deserves a family! Maybe you, like my husband and I, have felt called to go. When you are a child
needing a family, every day counts. There would be no better gift for a child and for your family this Christmas
than to make a commitment to adopt. If I can help you in any way, please just let me know! |
