The logo was designed for True Children's Home as a portrait of the nurturing
spirit of mother and child by Jon Goslee. Both mother
and child are connected by the careful swaddling arms of the mother.

  Did You Know.....

Most People Are Free To Have More Than One Child

China's "one child policy" was established in 1979 by Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping to limit China's population growth as a "temporary measure." It continues a quarter-century after its establishment. The policy has reduced population growth in a country of 1.3 billion by as much as 300 million over its first 20 years. Family planning officials say the policy actually restricts just 35.9 percent of the population to having one child.

Except in Central China's Henan Province, couples can have two children if they both come from single child families. In addition, more than 11 percent of the population, mostly minority groups, have two or more children. In many rural areas, couples are allowed to have a second child if their first is a girl (the so-called "one-and-a-half children policy").

The "one child policy" has a "certain relationship" with the acceleration of an aging society and the imbalance in the sex ratio of newborn babies. For lack of a social security system, people usually depend on sons to support them when they grow old. The policy has caused a disdain for female infants: abortions, neglect, abandonment and even infanticide have been known to occur to female infants. There are 114 males for every 100 females born. Normally, 105 males are born for every 100 females.

Although IUD's, sterilization, and abortion are China's most popular forms of birth control, over the past few
years, China has provided more education and support for alternative birth control methods.

  True Hero

There are many people working together to make a difference in the lives of children that come to TCH. Each month we will spotlight one of those individuals as our True Hero.

Global Doctor is an Australian-based Medical Company that provides international standard medical care in Global Doctor clinics throughout Asia. Dongguan is fortunate to have Global Doctor located in this area. Since opening TCH doctors and staff at Global Doctor have provided medical care to our children not only at the clinic but also at our children's home. Previously Dr. Valdez and Dr. Zhang provided medical care; currently Dr. Narvaez is providing medical care to children at TCH. Recently Pian went to see Dr. Narvaez at Global Doctor.

Thank you Global Doctor for making a difference in the lives of children that comes to TCH. You are a True Hero.

  True Children's Story

We always enjoy receiving updates on children that previously received care at TCH and have been adopted.

Tao was born November 25, 2005, as a preemie with a hernia. On April 7, 2006, Tao
arrived at TCH from an orphanage in Jiangxi Province. He weighed 4.3 kg. Tao
received care at TCH until he transitioned into foster care November 9, 2006. He
was then adopted on February 27, 2007, to a family in Spain. Below is an update we
recently received from Tao's parents.

"Tao is growing very well and is a very cheerful boy. When we were in China we called him little "koala" because he liked to stay quiet and hugged in our arms, but now we call him little "earthquake" because he can't stop moving. Tao is very naughty but has integrated among family and friends.

Last Saturday we celebrated Tao's baptism ceremony. After that we gave a big party where he could meet all his family. It was a great day!

We had a meeting with other families who had adopted Chinese children one month ago. During the last 10 years 2,000 children have been adopted in Valencia.

Tao is a media star; the local television station interviewed us a few days after our arrival from China and later shared Tao's story on a television show. Tao is one of the few Chinese boys adopted in Spain. The story was watched by many people and now people recognize us."
