FUTURE OLYMPIANS |
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
|
As the entire country prepares
for the Beijing Olympics, the
children of TCH were introduced
to the Olympic idea at a
recent Friends in the Park
gathering. Each child participated
in different sporting activities
and each received a
gold medal. |

Friends in the Park is a quarterly
gathering of TCH children and
their foster care families. Approximately
18 children attend each outing
where they are enjoy games
and rides, a snack and play time
with their friends. This is also a
good time for foster parents to
meet each other and share the joys
of being a foster parent. This
month the Dongguan Volunteer
Association, Humen Branch,
joined in the fun. |

BAYVIEW HILL ELEMENTARY MAKES A DIFFERENCE |
|
| |
|

|

Students at Bayview Hill Elementary School in Richmond Hill, Canada, led by teacher Kate Sluser,
made a commitment to help the children at True Children’s Home. The students organized a bake
sale to be held during the annual Arts Night. Students, staff, and parents prepared delicious treats to
sell. The bakers worked hard and created enough treats to continue the sale for several days.
Through their hard work and dedication the students at Bayview Hill Elementary School raised
$2,000 for the children at TCH. |

Thanks to Doctor Vinit Mahesh of Huntsville,

Pulmicort respules to TCH. Used with a nebu-lizer
these medications open the airways of children
with asthma, bronchitis and respiratory
problems.

There are many people working together to make a difference in the lives of children that come to TCH.
Each month we will spotlight one of those individuals as our True Hero. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
For over two years, Mr. Yang, owner of Fengxing Bottled Water Company,
has been providing 150 gallons of bottled water per month to our
first children’s home in Dongguan. Tap water is unacceptable for the
health of the children so there must be purified bottled water to mix
with the children’s formula. Thank you Mr. Yang for making a difference
in the lives of children at True Children’s Home. You are a True
Hero! |

Jack (Yu) Hears a Whole New World
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
After bringing Jack home from China in August 2007, we were thrilled to learn from our various
doctors that Jack’s cleft lip and palate repair were done so well that he wouldn’t need further surgery
until age four. Thanks to the wonderful caregivers at True Children’s Home and the skilled
hands of Dr. Li, we could focus our attention to Jack’s other special need—his hearing loss. Along
with bilateral cleft lip and palate, Jack was also born with bilateral microtia, or small ears, which
is the cause of about 50% hearing loss in each ear. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
We worked with a pediatric audiologist to find the right solution
for Jack. After several months of trials, we decided that
Jack could hear the best with behind-the-ear hearing aids.
Because of Jack’s small ears, we have to use toupee tape to
stick the aids to his head behind his ears to keep them in
place. It does the trick and Jack wears his hearing aids almost
all day, every day. Finally, in June, Jack received his
very own, personal hearing aids! He was so excited, and he
showed them off to his Daddy when he came home from
work.
It has been amazing how well Jack can hear now. During the
past year, he has had to go through so many adjustments—a
new family and home, a new language, new doctors—and
having these incredible hearing aids has helped him tremendously
to hear his new world. He is so curious and interested
in his environment, pointing and wanting to know the names
of everything around him.
In August, Jack will start going two days a week to a Mother’s Day Out program at our church with his big brother, who will be in the preschool. |
A happy Jack |
|
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
When Jack turns three next year, he’ll have
the opportunity to join a special class for hearing impaired children where he will learn how to
listen. Our hope is that he can continue going to preschool part of the week with his normalhearing
friends as well. One day, we hope he will be able to hear and speak well enough to mainstream
into regular Kindergarten by age five. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
We are so thrilled to have Jack in our family. He
is a wonderfully sweet and smart child, and we’re
so proud that he is our son. And, we will always be
thankful to True Children’s Home for doing so
much for Jack to help him have the best possible
life.
