International Children’s Day |
| |
|
July 1 was International Children’s Day, a globally
recognized date that in China is marked with
speeches on children’s rights and wellbeing, special
children’s TV programs, parties and various
activities promoting children and families spending
time together.
On this day several members of the Humen Volunteer
Group visited TCH. They brought with them
toys and clothing for the children—and lots of hugs. |

International Nurses Week |
|
This week in June is an opportunity to recognize the
dedication of nurses throughout the world. Nurses and
doctors from Tung Wah Hospital came to TCH to visit
with the children and brought them formula and bibs. |

Another Visit to TCH
Our friends Katherine Bauermeister and her daughters made
another trip to China and visited the children at TCH. This time
they brought with them bibs, dolls and blankets. They also
brought hats that were hand-knitted for the children by Mrs.
Jorde’s third grade class and doll clothes sewn by Katherine’s
mother. |

Colby Drive Bible Chapel Holds Baby Shower for TCH
We first heard about TCH in the spring of 2009 when we found that
the daughter just referred for adoption to us was being cared for
there. Of course, we were curious to learn what we could about
TCH, and were immediately struck by the level of care our little girl
was receiving, and the love that seemed so apparent from the
workers there.
Like any other parents, we couldn’t wait to get to China to meet our
new daughter, but we also couldn’t wait to visit TCH to meet everyone
there and to thank them for everything they had done for our
family. Out of this grew the desire to do something to give |
|
| back. The people within our local church, Colby Drive Bible Chapel, tucked away in a suburb of Nova Scotia, Canada, had
been supportive of our adoption and were following our progress since the very beginning. When we shared news
of our coming adoption and told them about TCH, they took action, hosting a baby shower—not just for us or for our
little one, but for all the little boys and girls in need of clothes, blankets...the list goes on, but mostly, because of people
that care about their welfare. The response was wonderful. Even after the event itself we received calls from
people that could not be there for the baby shower, but wanted to contribute something. |

Katrina Ouyang is the Director of the two True Children’s Homes in Dongguan. She is responsible for a staff of approximately 35 which includes the medical care coordinator, foster care coordinator, children’s homes supervisor and caregivers. She is truly dedicated to making a difference in the lives of the children at True Children’s Home. “True Children’s Home is more than a job to me; it is my life.” |
| In addition to over-seeing the staff and the daily care of the child-ren, both in home care and in foster care, Katrina is |
|
| the staff “photographer.” She documents milestones in the children’s lives such as birthdaysand hospital visits, walks in the park and daily activities. TCH volunteers
compile the photos into photo albums for the children. Katrina notes, “It is amazing to see how each child has changed. After each adoption I always reflect on the child and their time at True Children’s Home.” |
| |
|
|
| Katrina also speaks fluent English, Mandarin and Cantonese which enables her to communicate with foreign visitors, staff, foster families and Chinese visitors. Katrina’s commitment and tireless dedication is one of the major reasons why True Children’s Home has been so successful. Thank you Katrina for making a difference in the lives of children. You are a True Hero! |

Hi,
We are doing very well. YouYou is growing so much and she is full of energy. She loves to run, balance on things, swing and hang from monkey bars. If you didn’t know her history you would never guess that she has a serious heart condition. It’s just amazing how much more energetic she is since her surgery. |
| And do you remember the labored breathing? We have not heard that ONE SINGLE TIME since we’ve been home from the hospital. We have |
|
| another heart cath scheduled for June so that the doctors can see how significant the small holes are that are around the patch that they put in to close the large VSD. We are praying that she will not need any more surgeries for a while but they are trying to be very conservative and protect her lungs from any further damage so they may suggest another surgery sooner rather than later. Please tell everyone that YouYou is doing very well and we love her so very much. She is such a joy and has the sweetest personality. |

Dear TCH Family,
We just wanted to share with you a little update on our son Jack (Ai Kun). He’s been home nearly
a year, yet we can’t remember life without his bright smile and easy laugh. He’s grown, progressed
and transitioned in such an amazing way. He and his sister Claire bring so much joy into
our family with their constant questions, hilarious play and snuggles. Thank you for making a
difference for our son and so many other children who need it so badly, as they wait for their
families. TCH has touched our family in so many ways with your incredible care and it shows so
clearly.
All the best from our “True”ly happy family! |

have a referral for, a child who spent time at TCH. We hope to grow into a positive, supportive community that will foster
relationships with the families of TCH’s “brothers and sisters,” while discussing travel, continuing medical care at home
and general China adoption topics. We would also like to find ways to help TCH with fundraising. If you have a picture
