Medical Care Program
Updates |

Hua Yi and TCH staff, accom-panied
by Marla (pictured), a TCH
volunteer and pediatric nurse,
went to Shenzhen Children’s
Hospital for Hua Yi’s seventh
casting. The next step for Hua
Yi will be cast removal in two
weeks. She will then be admitted
to the hospital for surgery to
cut her Achilles tendon. Recovery time will be approximately 4 weeks. There-after, Hua Yi will
wear a brace 23 |
 |
| hours a day for 3 months and every time she sleeps
for the following 2-4 years. If a child does not wear the brace while
sleeping, it is likely that the feet will turn again, even up to 2-1/2 years
after correction. |
|
| |
|
Yu Hui visited the hospital for his six month check,
accompanied by Katrina (left) and Jenny Smith
(holding Yu Hui.) The doctor emphasized that the
brace is a critical part of the treatment for club feet
and that Yu Hui should continue to wear the brace
when he sleeps! |

Foster Care Program
Lunch and Learn |
| |
|
|
| |
| Lunch and Learn is an opportunity for us to further educate foster care parents on issues that will enhance
the care of the children and benefit their own lives. |
| |
 |
On Saturday, September 27, TCH had a very successful “Lunch and Learn.” Foster mothers attended a presentation by a local dentist on oral hygiene. Each foster mother received a booklet in Chinese on dental care, |
| as well as a toothbrush and toothpaste for older foster children. Each Lunch and Learn event is funded by private donations. The Dental Event was funded by Joe & Renee Witmer and Bob & Jan Arleth.Staff from |

Hats Off to You!
Mark Loomis from the U.S. spent time
with Xin Huan at TCH (left), bringing her
a gift pack full of toys, clothes and a
stuffed animal. Mark also brought clothing,
hats and shoes that were donated
by friends in the U.S. The children at
TCH had a great time trying on the hats! |

One Good Deed
Students at Bayview Hill Elementary
School, Canada, in grades 3 and 4, join together
to recognize their contributions to
True Children’s Home. In May, the children
held a “marathon” bake sale. For several
days they sold baked good to raise funds
for TCH. |

| Laurel, a TCH volunteer, recently donated more children’s shoes to TCH. The children enjoyed
looking through the box and trying on several pairs of shoes until they found the perfect pair! |

|
| |
| There are many people working together to make a difference in the lives of children that come to TCH. Each
month we will spotlight one of those individuals as our True Hero. |

For communications and IT support, True Children’s
Home has been fortunate to have the support
of Aglow Technologies. For the past two
years, Aglow has provided web service free of
charge. Additionally, Vu Thoo of Aglow, donates
his time on a monthly basis to edit and maintain the
TCH website. We thank you Vu Thoo and Aglow
for your generosity. You are True Heroes! |

Make a Difference in Your Community
|
| |
|
|
| With the holidays fast approaching, several people have inquired about fundraising opportunities for True
Children’s Home. Here are a couple of ideas for those interested in organizing an event to benefit TCH. |
| |
Angel Tree |
| |
| Materials Needed |
| • One Christmas Tree |
| • Individual Christmas Lights |
| |
| Place the Christmas tree in a place visible to all who purchase the lights. Offer the community the
opportunity to purchase one light for the tree in memory or in honor of a loved one or a pet. Purchases
are made in advance. Make the lighting of the tree a festive occasion. Sell hot chocolate,
cider and baked goods. A small craft sale can also be a good source of funds. Be sure to let people
know the official time of the tree lighting. |
| |
Holiday Wreaths |
| |
| Materials Needed |
| • Plain Wreaths |
| • Ribbon |
| • Decorations for wreaths |
| |
| Decorate wreaths with a holiday theme and offer for sale in your community. |
| |
Craft Fair and Bake Sale |
| |
| Materials Needed |
| • Bakers |
| • Crafty people |
| • Tables |
| |
| Communities from schools to churches can offer “space” for rent for a craft and bake sale. Each
rental space should have a table and defined area; this can be a roped off area or drawn with chalk
if outside. Accept applications from crafters and people with handmade wares to sell. Be sure to
advertise the event for several weeks prior as you will need to bring in a good crowd to satisfy the
renters. Sell bottled water as an extra. |
| |
Singing Holiday Card |
| |
| Materials Needed |
| • Singers in holiday dress |
| • Sign up sheet |
| |
| Solicit donations from people in exchange for a singing card, delivered to the person/home of their
choice. (You will need to indicate city boundaries or you could end up many miles away.) The choristers
should dress in holiday attire or something festive to set them apart. You will want to give the
purchaser a list of songs from which to choose. An upgrade you could offer is delivery of a box of
holiday cookies for an additional charge. |

| Adoptive Parents of Alumni of True Children’s Home-China, an online group exclusive to families
who have adopted, or have a referral for, a child who spent time at TCH. We hope to grow into a
positive, supportive community that will foster relationships with the families of TCH’s “brothers and
sisters,” while discussing travel, continuing medical care at home and general China adoption topics.
We would also like to find ways to help TCH with fundraising. If you have a picture of your child on a
“boppy pillow”, your child might be a TCH alumni! |
